Skype releases WiFi Access app

Skype, the recently Microsoft owned company, is now branching out into the WiFi hotspot business. More specifically, they just released an iPhone application that let’s you purchase WiFi access with Skype Credits, on a per minute bases. The service is powered by 3rd party WiFi providers (including Boingo, Vex Fon, Tomizone, and others), and is currently available on all iOS devices (not WP7 phones, hmmm). It currently costs about ¢6 per minute to browser the web, the interesting thing is that you don’t pay for an entire day or hour, you pay for what you use. The application is currently available for download (via this link). There are apparently over one million hotspots in the world, most are found at public transportation stations and hotels; however several restaurants have also been known to use several of the aforementioned services.
