Mac OS Lion randomly crashing to black screen (Updated the Update)

Mac OS Lion Crashing

Man that was a big bug!

Today, Mac OS Lion was released. People all over the world hesitated at their computers, wondering if there were numerous and unavoidable issues with Apple’s latest operating system… the answer: there are. Just today, my computer crashed five times, each time crashing to a black screen; however, it is still running… it’s just a black screen, on which one can’t do anything. This problem can only be temporarily fixed, in a manner that’s not precisely to my liking: force rebooting. So far the issue only occurs whilst running applications, the first being Chrome + Comcast, the other being Photo-Booth.

Update: I’ve read several forums and articles each claiming that the aforementioned issues is becoming more widespread. One other thing that I noticed, is that the majority of the people who are having this issue, are running on 8GB of RAM; however, this is not true for all cases.

Update 2: It has been confirmed by numerous sources now that Mac OS Lion is indeed crashing to a black screen, as a result of the Nividia GPU that was introduced in mid 2010. Currently the only fix is an application called GFXCardStatus (not GPUCardStatus). Once installed one must change the selected graphics, from the Nividia GPU to the intergrated one; however, the only issue with this, is it will diminish the quality of HD video and games.

Have you had issues? Also, are you on a MacBook (Pro, Mid-2010)? Tell us in the comments section below.
