Hacker finds a vulnerability in GSM network

A few days ago at Defcon 2010 Chris Paget showed everyone how he hacked 20 of the audiences’ phones by making a homemade IMSI catcher. What this means is that if you had this IMSI catcher you could spoof someones phone into thinking that your catcher was a GSM tower.
GSM networks work on the basis that they will connect to the strongest tower no matter the location. This could mean the end of GSM networks or it could be the network version of WEP.
If you find yourself on a 2G network you probably should switch over to a new phone.
