Google has been working on Google Voice for almost a year now, but today they announced that they’re bringing the entire service to Gmail.
What this means is that you can make phone calls either for free or for a low price of ¢0.02 a minute (international). This is a big step in the right direction for Google. This will make calling your friends in Paris cheaper than regular phones.
Calling any phone in the US will be free for 2010. After 2010 it may cost something, however we can always hope that they will keep where it is now.
Above is the video that describes the service. You can try it right now. When you log into the Gmail it will appear as a pop-up.
Engadget says that they think the audio quality is much higher then that of Skype. Which means this could replace Skype as many peoples main calling VOIP service.
