Barnes and Noble Nook Color announced

Gone are the days of E-Ink displays, Barnes & Noble just announced that they’re coming out with a color Nook on November 19th. It has a 16 million color IPS display with a resolution of 1024 x 600. Because of that IPS display the battery takes a large hit. Instead of the normal 24 hour battery life it goes down to 8 hours… with WiFi off. There’s a “full lamination screen film” which will supposedly cut out a lot of the glare.

The best new feature is most likely the little handle on the corner. The Nook Color has a microSD card slot. The base OS on the Nook Color is the Android OS. Which means you’ll be able to root the device, and install almost any application you want. Although Barnes & Noble did say that they’ll be releasing a Developer Program. According to Barnes & Noble there will be applications such as Pandora, and Lonely Planet. There will also be a video playback.

We’ll see what people think when it comes out. I personally think that the old Nook was a little better. 24 hours of battery life is much better then the weak 8 hours that the Nook Color gets. What do you think? Tell us in the comments below.
