100,000 apps on the Android Marketplace

The Android platform has been in the spot-light of open-source people since day one. However, during the early days of the Android, people were worrying about how many applications would be programmed for it. Well today that worry can be crossed of the list. Google reported today that they have officially reached 100,000 apps on the Android Marketplace. The Android platform came out two years ago almost to the day. The iPhone is on its third year and it’s getting close to it’s fourth. The App Store has about 300,000 apps. Now those aren’t the best stats, but given how Apple has been known to produce quality hardware, and how Google has been known to only make software.

This is a very big milestone for Google, and I congratulate them on the achievement. And I hope to see it grow to match (and overwhelm) the iPhone and its App Store.
